PI’s Proven Results

“In 2010, prior to the implementation of PI, we hired 330 OPC’s. The following year, by attracting the right people for the role, we only had to hire 130 OPC’s (61% fewer hires).”

4 Reasons Why Predictive Index® (PI®) is Superior to Myers-Briggs

Full Article

1. The PI was created specifically for the workplace.

In 1942, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) was created and primarily used for individual growth and understanding, marital counseling, and academic advising. In 1955, The Predictive Index® (PI®) was introduced specifically for assessments in the workplace and has successfully assisted businesses in the areas of: personnel screening, pre employment testing, talent management, executive on-boarding, leadership development programs, succession planning, sales training programs, team building, and organizational culture change.

2. The PI is a “free choice” assessment.

Individuals who take the Predictive Index are presented with lists of adjectives and are asked to identify those which fit them and their current role. These adjectives represent the person’s environment the individual words on the assessment either stimulate the person to respond or not. In other words, they are free to choose and thus the data collected is extremely reflective of the individual’s natural self. With MBTI individuals are presented with a long list of questions for which they must respond or make a choice. Sometimes there is no choice that the person feels is right for them and other times more than one answer is desirable.

3. PI is administered in less than 10 minutes

In today’s fast paced work environment time is more valuable than ever. The typical MBTI assessment takes approximately 45 minutes to complete, while studies have shown the Predictive is completed in an average time of just 7 1/2 minutes. When a company asks all its employees to complete an assessment, clearly the MBTI can result in far more man-hours away from normal work activities. And when these tools are used as part of the pre-employment screening process, it is far more advantageous for hiring managers to have the ability to quickly administer assessments.

4. PI is valid and based in science

The Predictive Index is work-related, free of bias, valid and reliable. Designed to help employers comply with their obligations under the EEOC’s Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures, it can be used for both selection and career development opportunities. Relationships between PI and better job performance metrics have been studied at great length. The metrics can be found in hundreds of statistical studies across different industries. Additionally, the PI has been reviewed by a Scientific Advisory Board and is referenced in numerous peer-reviewed journals. MBTI has been involved in an undefined number of validation studies on reported type and best-fit (as identified by the participant). Also, it is utilized in numerous research articles which have been published in peer-reviewed journals and many publications that are not peer-reviewed.

Predictive Index serves a critical role in pre-employment screening/talent acquisition. Due to MBTI’s inherit bias and according to their own materials, it is NOT to be used as part of the all-important pre-employment screening process.
